Uganda Police Condemns Brutal Arrest; Officers Detained for Disciplinary Action

 

Mbarara, Uganda – The Uganda Police Force has publicly condemned the unprofessional conduct of four officers involved in a violent arrest captured on video, which has sparked widespread outrage. The video shows a female suspect being dragged through the mud in Lubiri Cell, Mbarara City, during an arrest operation.

In a statement, the Uganda Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to professional standards and denounced the actions of the officers, describing them as contradictory to its code of conduct.

The officers implicated in the incident are:

1. ASP Andrew Betunga (in uniform)

2. Detective Constable Darious Aharizira

3. Detective Constable Hope Nsasirwe

4. Detective Constable Loyce Kiboneka

All four officers have since been arrested and are currently detained in Mbarara as investigations continue.

The actions depicted in the video are unacceptable and do not represent the values of the Uganda Police Force. We remain committed to ensuring accountability and professionalism among our personnel,” the statement read.

The force further assured the public that disciplinary measures are underway, and updates regarding the progress of the investigation and subsequent actions will be shared in due course.

The incident has ignited conversations about police conduct and accountability, with human rights advocates calling for more robust measures to address misconduct within law enforcement.
