Heavy Downpour Destroys Over 20 Houses in Amolatar Town, Including Key Structures

Amolatar District – In a devastating event this afternoon, a severe downpour accompanied by strong winds tore through Amolatar Town, causing significant destruction to over 20 buildings. Among the affected structures are the Pentecostal Assemblies of God (PAG) Church in Amolatar Town Council, the Kyoga FM building, and several business premises that serve as key economic hubs in the area.

Eyewitnesses reported that the storm, which lasted for over an hour, was characterized by powerful gusts that ripped off roofs and brought down walls. The affected buildings include residential homes, shops, and offices, leaving many residents and business owners without shelter or a place to operate from. In particular, the PAG church, a center of worship for many, sustained severe damage to its roof, rendering it unusable for the time being.

Kyoga FM, a local radio station in Amolatar, also had its building’s affected as well, disrupting broadcasts and leaving staff in disarray. Business premises in the heart of the town, including several shops, were severely affected, with goods and equipment destroyed by the rainwater that flooded through the open roofs.

Speaking to the press, some residents expressed shock and disbelief at the extent of the damage, as they tried to salvage whatever they could from the debris. "I have never seen such destruction before," said one resident. "We were inside the house when the wind started to blow. Within minutes, the roof was gone, and everything inside was soaked."

Local authorities have yet to give an official statement regarding the full extent of the damage, but a preliminary assessment indicates that the storm's impact will be felt for weeks as residents and business owners begin the long process of recovery. Relief efforts are expected to commence soon, with local leaders calling on government agencies and humanitarian organizations to provide assistance to those affected by the disaster.

The incident has also raised concerns about the structural integrity of buildings in Amolatar Town, with some community members questioning whether current construction standards are sufficient to withstand extreme weather events like today’s storm. Authorities are expected to investigate and provide guidance on how such incidents can be mitigated in the future.

As of now, no casualties have been reported, but the displaced families and businesses are left in urgent need of support to rebuild their lives and livelihoods.
