Wanok, the Bishop
of Lira Diocese will be visiting Amolatar
Catholic Parish in Amolatar District in Lango Sub Region on 19th May
2023.
According to Otim Calvin Dioxz, the Publicity
Secretary of the prominent Social space based in Amolatar called “Catholic Professionals Amolatar Parish”, he quoted, “19th May, we shall be welcoming the Bishop
from Agaya at 10:am, he will stop and bless the Christians gathered at Abarler
Chapel, then he will proceed and stop for a few minutes at Centenary Bank
Amolatar Branch and bless the staffs. After he will come straight and finds the
women Guild waiting to welcome him warmly at CPS Amolatar, and he will be brought up to
the Alemere Parish. He will go straight to the Church and prays briefly, bless the
Christians gathered in the Church, and come out for a short break before the first talk at 11:00am. On Saturday 20th May, the installation of a New Parish Priest
and three Catechists will be given ministries of the Eucharist. Holy Mass
will begin at 9:00am”.
The Rt. Rev. Sanctus Lino Wanok was born 7th April 1957, at Ukuru Pamach
Village, Zombo District, West Nile Sub-region, in Warr Parish, Nebbi Catholic
Diocese. He was ordained a deacon on 31st August 1985 at Ediofe Parish by
Bishop Emeritus Angelo Tarantino, and was ordained Priest on 27th September
1986 at Warr Parish by Bishop Frederick Drandua.
From 1987, he was serving as a curate in Nyapea Parish
when he was appointed lecturer in Katigondo National Major Seminary. And from
1990 he went for further studies in Rome and obtained doctorate in Biblical
Theology in 1995. He was appointed lecturer in biblical studies in Ggaba
National Major Seminary until September 2005.
From 2005 to the time of his election as Bishop,
he was a Parish Priest in Paidha Town Parish and the Vicar general of Nebbi
Catholic Diocese. He was appointed bishop of Nebbi Diocese on 8th February
2011, by Pope Benedict XVI and ordained bishop on 30 April 2011 at Nebbi
Cathedral.
He was appointed Bishop of Lira Diocese on 23rd
November 2018 by Pope Francis and installed as the fourth Bishop of Lira on 9th
February 2019 at Lira, succeeding Rt. Rev. Guiseppe Franzelli.
