RDC of Apac Calls for United Effort Against Corruption and Moral Decay in Uganda

Lira, Uganda – The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Apac and Whip of Lango RDCs, Mr. Abudul George, has urged religious and lay leaders to prioritize the fight against corruption and moral decay, describing these issues as major obstacles to national development.

Mr. Abudul, who has announced his interest in contesting for the Erute South MP seat in Lira District in the 2026 elections, made this appeal during the visit of the Bishop of Lira Diocese, Rt. Rev. Sanctus Lino Wanok, to Aloi Parish. The visit was part of a meeting with Chapel Council Leaders, Catechists, and other church leaders aimed at exploring ways to refocus the Church’s efforts on fighting poverty among its followers.

In his address to the leaders, Mr. Abudul reflected on the Catholic Church's long-standing mission to instill integrity, humility, and support for the poor, particularly in health, education, and economic empowerment. He acknowledged the early challenges faced by the Church, including insecurity and lack of basic supplies, which were addressed through the efforts of President Museveni and the NRM Government, especially in Northern Uganda.

"Today, we still face the challenge of corruption, which constrains the potential of our people, especially the youth. They feel they must compromise to advance, and this is something we need to change," Mr. Abudul emphasized.

He called for servant leadership at all levels, urging leaders to preach prosperity and hard work. "Whether you're a doctor, teacher, pastor, or politician, you are supposed to serve. We must build a nation of servant leaders," he said.

In his memoir, Mr. Abudul highlighted significant social initiatives by the Catholic Church, including the rescue of over 10,000 orphaned children from Northern Uganda and support for nearly 7,000 vulnerable women raising their children. These efforts, he noted, are not just about providing aid but about empowering individuals to become productive citizens, a message he urged Church leaders to spread within their communities.

Mr. Abudul also addressed the influence of Western powers on Ugandan values, particularly in relation to moral practices and dependency on foreign aid. "There are pressures to adopt corrupt moral practices that are not healthy for nation-building. We should not depend on aid but build a self-sufficient Africa through trade and proper use of our resources," he asserted.

Highlighting Northern Uganda's vast potential, Mr. Abudul pointed to the region's agricultural capacity, mineral resources, and the intelligence and industriousness of its youth. He called on the young people of the region to rise to the challenge and help build a new Uganda based on moral integrity and servant leadership.

Mr. Abudul concluded with an optimistic vision for Uganda’s future, expressing his belief that the best years are ahead as the next generation embraces the values of integrity and servant leadership.
