ARDC Otuke District Rallies Community to Embrace Education for Sustainable Development

Otuke District, Uganda - Isaac Opio Opeo, delegated by Senior RDC of Otuke District John Robert Adyama Ekajo, has called on parents, teachers, and community leaders to embrace the culture of sending their children to school for sustainable development through the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and abilities. Opeo emphasized the importance of utilizing the peace and stability brought by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who pacified Otuke District and Northern Uganda from the threats posed by LRA war leader Joseph Kony.

This appeal was made during the commissioning of a classroom block built by the development partner, Link to Progress, which supplements the government's role in providing and improving education quality. The event took place at Okune P7 School in Oluru Parish, Ogor Sub-county, Otuke District. The project, costing 585 million Uganda Shillings, includes a five-door classroom block furnished with desks, borehole construction, piped water, toilets for boys and girls, staff facilities, psychosocial support for LRA war victims, and training for the community in village saving culture. Due to these modern facilities, the school has been renamed Okune Modern School.

The community expressed gratitude for the NGO's efforts, noting the increased school enrollment as a significant benefit. Present at the function were DRDC Otuke Mr. Frances Okwalinga, the CAO Otuke, the Chairperson LCV and his DEC members, and the education department led by Inspector of Schools Mr. Odongo, among other dignitaries.
