Youth Enterprises in Amolatar District Benefit from Chicken Project Commissioned by Area Woman MP Hon Dr Agnes Atim Apea

Amolatar District, 17th July 2024 – Youth enterprises in Amolatar District have seen significant benefits from a chicken project commissioned by Dr. Agness Atim Apea, the Woman Member of Parliament for Amolatar. On behalf of Dr. Apea, her political assistant, Opio Obote, distributed over 200 chickens to ten youth enterprises from the sub-counties of Etam, Agikdak, and Namasale.

While handing over the chickens, Opio Obote highlighted Dr. Apea’s vision of reducing poverty levels among households in Amolatar. "Hon. Atim aims to balance income-generating activities across different households in the district," he stated. He also mentioned that alongside the chicken project, 100 pigs and 20,000 cashew nut seeds had been distributed to farmers in recent months to improve their livelihoods.

Opio appealed to the benefiting youth to embrace the chicken-keeping project to ensure its expansion to other youths. He urged the youth to change their mindset towards development and to seize opportunities provided by leaders and the government. "Many people take it for granted when free things are given to them and don't bother even when they lose them, making it hard to change their living standards," he remarked.

JB Okello, Coordinator of Goodies Leisure in Amolatar District, pledged to continue networking with other youths so they could also benefit from the project. He emphasized that youth with a focus on development would be selected for future poultry-keeping initiatives under Hon. Dr. Apea’s ongoing program. Okello also encouraged the poultry farmers to engage in maize farming to supplement chicken feed.

Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude and commitment to the project. Scovia Nabutono from Agikdak Sub County thanked MP Atim for her support, promising to develop further through the poultry project. Ocen Solomon from Namasale encouraged other youths to participate in productive activities and avoid begging and theft. "Poultry keeping is a life-changing opportunity," Ocen noted. Otema Robin from Etam Sub County offered to train fellow youths on poultry keeping and thanked Hon. Atim for her continuous support.

A month ago, Hon. Apea also donated Kuroiler chicks to persons with disabilities to boost their income. This initiative is part of a broader effort to economically empower the community in Amolatar District.
