Otuke District Launches 35 Million Road Rehabilitation Program

OTUKE DISTRICT: Earlier this week (Wednesday), the Otuke District local government, led by the Office of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), launched a 35 million shillings road rehabilitation program. The first project under this initiative is the upgrading of Agweng Swamp, a critical area that has long hindered movement within the district.

Located in Olech Ward of Otuke Town Council and bordering Alango Sub County, Agweng Swamp connects to Aliwang, Adwari, and Apur Market. The swamp had become impassable, significantly affecting the mobility of residents and the transportation of goods.

The rehabilitation work has commenced, with plans to procure calabash and murram to support the construction efforts. Key figures in attendance at the launch included Otuke District Senior RDC John Robert Ekajo, Assistant RDC Isaac Opio Opeo, and Assistant RDC Mitala Umar. They encouraged the local residents to embrace government programs to improve their economic status and reduce household poverty.

The local community expressed their excitement and pledged continued support for the NRM government and President Museveni, acknowledging the steady development of Otuke District.

Other notable attendees at the launch were Assistant Engineer of Otuke town council, Mr. Obongo Tonny Oluge, Assistant Town Clerk Amulen Magdalene, and Mayor of Otuke Town Council, Ario Omac. Mayor Omac pledged his support to work with the NRM government to ensure sustainable development for Otuke District.

This road rehabilitation program is a significant step towards improving infrastructure and fostering economic growth in the region.
