Uganda Signs Contract with Turkish Company for Construction of 20,000-Seater Stadium in Hoima

In a significant move towards bolstering its sports infrastructure, the Government of Uganda has entered into a contract with Turkish construction firm M/S SUMMA to build a state-of-the-art multi-purpose stadium in Hoima. This 20,000-seater facility is set to be a key venue for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which Uganda will co-host.

The agreement was formalized in Kampala today, with high-ranking officials from both the Ugandan government and M/S SUMMA in attendance. The new stadium is expected to boost not only the sporting capabilities of the country but also its economic and social landscape.

“This project is a monumental step for Uganda’s sports and tourism sectors,” said the Minister of Sports. “Hosting AFCON 2027 presents a tremendous opportunity for us to showcase our nation on the international stage. The construction of this stadium in Hoima is central to our preparations and will leave a lasting legacy for future generations.”

The stadium will feature modern amenities, including training facilities, hospitality suites, and extensive parking, meeting international standards for hosting large-scale sports events. The project underscores Uganda’s commitment to developing world-class sports infrastructure and promoting regional development.

Representatives from M/S SUMMA expressed their enthusiasm about the partnership. “We are honored to be part of this historic project,” stated the company’s CEO. “Our experience in constructing world-class facilities will ensure that Hoima’s new stadium is a beacon of modern architecture and functionality.”

Construction is slated to begin later this year, with completion expected well ahead of the 2027 tournament. The stadium’s development is anticipated to generate significant employment opportunities and spur local economic growth in Hoima and surrounding regions.

The 2027 AFCON, set to be one of the largest sporting events on the African continent, will bring together teams and fans from across Africa, promising to elevate Uganda’s status in the world of international football. The new stadium in Hoima will be one of the centerpiece venues, expected to host several key matches of the tournament.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy by the Ugandan government to invest in sports and infrastructure, aiming to foster talent and promote the country as a premier destination for international events.
