RDC Otuke District and MPs Flag off the Distribution of 60 Wheelchairs
OTUKE DISTRICT: In response to the National Policy on Disability 2023, and in light of statistics indicating that 22.1% of the population in the Lango region faces difficulties in walking and climbing steps, a significant initiative was launched this afternoon. The RDC of Otuke district, along with the ARDC, Otuke East MP Hon. Julius Acon Bua (NRM), and Otuke Woman MP Hon. Suzan Abeja (Independent), flagged off sixty wheelchairs for selected beneficiaries in the district.
The office of the RDC expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with O.J. Disability Care Foundation and the area MPs, for facilitating these donations. The RDC's office urged the public to continue supporting government programs by electing leaders aligned with the NRM movement to ensure efficient service delivery.
These wheelchairs bring substantial relief to the parents of disabled children and caretakers of the elderly. The beneficiaries were reminded to appreciate the peace and stability brought by the NRM movement and Gen. Y.K. Museveni, emphasizing that during past instabilities, disabled individuals were severely affected due to their inability to walk or run. The office encouraged continued support for the NRM movement and the ruling party.
Additionally, the office of the RDC assured the disabled community and their caretakers that 10% of the total 4.2 billion shillings allocated to Otuke district in 2023 for financing 60 parishes in the Parish Development Model (PDM) has been earmarked for special interest groups, including Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). The RDC's office is tasked with monitoring these funds to ensure their productive use.
The office also cautioned beneficiaries against misusing the wheelchairs, highlighting their high value and the costs involved in acquiring them.
Hon. Suzan Abeja was appreciated for her continued support for the NRM party movement despite representing Otuke as an independent woman MP. The RDC assured that the NRM primaries for 2026-2031 in Otuke District will be conducted fairly to prevent losing votes to independent candidates who support the NRM movement.
Lastly, the RDC urged the people of Otuke to continue loving Uganda, supporting the NRM movement, and appreciating the achievements brought by the NRM and Gen. Y.K. Museveni. The office remains open to addressing any concerns from the public.
By ensuring detailed coverage and emphasizing the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders, the news highlights the ongoing initiatives aimed at improving the lives of disabled individuals in the Lango region.
