Government Officials Commend President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for Establishing Okwang Technical School for Advancing Human Development Skills in Otuke District

Otuke District, Uganda – In a dedicated effort to monitor government programs and their impacts on local communities this week ending, Otuke District Assistant Resident District Commissioner (ARDC) Opio Isaac Opeo, along with Resident District Commissioner (RDC) John Robert Adyamu Ekajo, visited Okwang Technical School. The visit highlighted the successful fulfillment of a 2011 pledge by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to promote Human Capital Development through technical education in the Lango Sub Region by Establishing a Technical School.

During his 2021 campaign in Otuke District, President Museveni reiterated his commitment to advancing Human Capital Development by promising the establishment of a technical school in Otuke District. This promise came to fruition with the construction and operationalization of Okwang Technical School, which is now equipping students with essential Technical competence skills. The school's existence has solidified the community’s faith in President Museveni, who is hailed as a "promise keeper." The residents of Otuke District have expressed their gratitude and have pledged to support President Museveni with substantial votes in the upcoming 2026 elections.

ARDC Opio Isaac Opeo and RDC John Robert Adyamu Ekajo were impressed by the school’s active technical classes offering Training to the learners, noting a significant number of students in attendance. They also visited a demonstration garden used by students for practical learning. This garden serves a dual purpose, offering hands-on agricultural education to students and practical knowledge to the local community. Crops such as tomatoes, yellow sweet potatoes, bananas, and various trees are cultivated here, benefiting both students and residents.

The officials confirmed the school’s contribution to the local economy through its departments in shoemaking, carpentry and joinery, block laying, and building. By imparting these technical skills, Okwang Technical School is promoting socio-economic transformation, reducing household poverty, and increasing household income.

The ARDC Opio Isaac Opeo rallied the community to embrace government programs like the Parish Development Model (PDM), EMYOOGA, Youth Livelihood Project, and GROW Project to enroll 39% of the subsistence farmers into commercial Agriculture. These initiatives are designed to enhance community welfare and increase households' income levels, therefore reducing household poverty levels. Additionally, the gathering endorsed President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the sole candidate under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) for the 2026 presidential bid, citing his dedication to improving the socio-economic status and promoting Human Capital Development of Ugandans, particularly in Otuke District.

However, the school administrator presented some few challenges the school is facing, notably in water and electricity supply. in response to these challenges, the RDC John Robert Adyamu Ekajo assured the school that these issues would be addressed by coordinating with the district and the Ministry of Water to find a lasting solution. The monitoring visit saw participation from various stakeholders, including the O/C station representing the District Police Commander (DPC) of Otuke District, Chairperson Board of Governors Mr. Ojok Okello, SAS Okwang Sub-county, Principal Mr. Okello Robert, staff, parents, and students. Students were encouraged to maintain discipline and focus on their studies to maximize their educational opportunities.

The gathering thanked the principal for his technical guidance in managing the school which made the school perform excellently in the last year's Examination. Okwang Technical School boasts a team of well-qualified staff from across Uganda and a diverse student body from all four regions of Uganda. The school stands as a testament to the government's commitment to education and Human Capital Development in the region.
